OCA Global conducts inspections at Spanish military bases in Iraq and Lebanon

21.05.2018

Last March, members of the OCA Global team traveled to Iraq and Lebanon to carry out inspections at the bases that the Spanish Ministry of Defense has in both countries, where they collaborate in different missions.

The team members traveled from Madrid to Iraq, where they landed at Baghdad International Airport, after a long journey and several planes. From there, American soldiers transferred them to the Tallil air base in armored vehicles from where, in turn, they were transported in a Chinook helicopter (equipped with the required bulletproof vests and helmets) until finally arriving at the Spanish Gran Capitán Base, located in Besmayah, which participates in the "Support to Iraq" operation».

Once installed at the base, having made the introductions with the base commanders, and having rested a little after the odyssey of the trip, the inspection of the cranes used for the transport of goods and the conditioning of the base itself began.

Once the work at the Gran Capitán base was completed, our team set off again on the same travel route, but this time back to Baghdad International Airport. Once there, and after three flights, they landed at Rafic Hariri International Airport in Beirut, Lebanon. There they were met by Spanish soldiers who transported them, also in an armored car, to the Miguel de Cervantes base, near the town of Maryayun. The Spanish-led Sector East Headquarters is located there, where the same ITC inspection work was carried out on the cranes.

Once the inspection work in Lebanon was completed, our team set off on its 14-hour journey back to Spain, all a little more tanned after enduring temperatures of 35-40 degrees during the days of inspection work.

We would like to highlight the great work done by the team at both bases, since despite the high temperatures and the occasional moment of nerves and stress (either due to the launching of anti-missile flares in one of the helicopter trips, the chaotic way of driving of the locals or having to use regulatory protection material such as helmets and bulletproof vests), they fulfilled their duties with more than satisfactory results.
